Code of Ethics

The Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog Club established a Code of Ethics in accordance with the objectives set forth in its bylaws. It is a guideline to be used and followed by the members of the Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog Club to advance the breed, foster cooperation among breeders, owners and fanciers, and set the highest standards in the improvement and betterment of the Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog.
1. HEALTH
1.1 Maintain the highest standards of health, care and nutrition for all Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldogs. Maintain safe, healthy, clean and sanitary conditions and environment at all times and provide adequate and proper socialisation.
1.2 Hold the reputation and image of the Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog in high esteem and protect the breed from ill disrepute.
2. BREEDING
2.2 Breed only to improve the Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog breed. Plan with utmost care, each and every breeding by judicious selection of brood bitches and studs, with the paramount intention of improving the breed.
2.3 Only breed brood bitches or studs without disqualifying faults or known genetic defects, nor those with unstable temperaments.
2.4 Only breed a stud or bitch that are physically and mentally mature. Brood bitches should not be bred before 14 months of age. Neither should a stud be bred before 10 months of age. Ideally, brood bitches should be bred at two years of age.
2.5 No Alapaha should be bred to any other breed.
2.6 All studs and brood bitches used for breeding is highly recommended to have DNA profiles with the DDC (USA) or the AHT (UK).
2.7 It is of paramount importance that breeders of the Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog understand that it is a working breed and shall strive towards preserving the working qualities of the breed.
2.8 Encourage/require the buyers of pet quality puppies to spay or neuter them.
3. RECORDS
3.3 Maintain accurate records of pedigrees, registration, OFA, Pennhip, puppy guarantees and contracts, stud service contracts and veterinary records.
3.4 Any person who falsifies a registration, or knowingly misrepresents a pedigree shall be expelled from the Club.
4. SALES
4.1 Provide buyers of Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldogs registration certificates from a recognized registry with at least a three-generation pedigree within 120 days from the date of purchase.
4.2 Breeders shall likewise furnish buyers complete health, diet, parasite control and inoculation records upon the complete purchase of a pup or adult dog.
4.3 Furnish the purchaser a health guarantee and a purchaser’s contract delineating the rights and obligations the owner and breeder has to the puppy/dog.
4.4 Breeders shall, at all times, be discriminating in the sales of puppies, and be concerned with the type of homes in which they are placed. Dogs/puppies will not be sold to dog wholesalers or retailers. Neither shall dogs or puppies be sold for illegal purposes (i.e. dog fighting).
4.5 Refrain from releasing any any puppy until it is at least seven (7) or eight (8) weeks old if the puppy is to be shipped.
5. ADVERTISING
5.1 Advertising of dogs/puppies will be factual and honest, both in substance and implication. Shall not knowingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed, nor falsely advertise, or mislead any person regarding the performance of any dogs for sale or puppies for sale.
5.2 Any promotional advertisement of any form shall in no way debase or slander another breeder, owner, fancier of Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldogs.
5.3 Any advertisement online or on paper shall include the link of the website of the Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog Club to promote the Club and the breed.
6. EXHIBITOR/BREEDER RELATIONS
6.1 Any breeder, fancier or exhibitor is expected to express good sportsmanship in all activities. It is imperative that any breeder or exhibitor understand and respect that judges’ decisions during shows and events are binding and final.
6.2 As a breeder and exhibitor one should refrain from unnecessary criticism of other people’s dogs. A breed or exhibitor shall not deliberately degrade any breeder, fancier, their dogs, or their kennel.
6.3 Every breeder and exhibitor shall be a source of good and truthful information about the breed and assist other breeders in the betterment of the Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog. Breeders shall provide information on the characteristics and properties of the breed to interested individuals.
6.4 Alcohol is prohibited in show or event grounds. Music with explicit content is likewise not permitted.
7. IMPLEMENTATION
The Alapaha Blue-Blood Bulldog Club established this Code of Ethics as an expression of goals for breeders, owners and fanciers. It is not to be construed as a rule or regulation to be enforced by punishment. Breeders are expected to police themselves in a civil and responsible manner. When an exception to any of the foregoing provisions of the code of ethics is warranted for the protection and betterment of the breed, the Board of Directors, shall by majority vote, take up such an exception.
